I love the work of Julie Mehretu (RISD, MFA ‘97). This one (called ‘Dispersion’), in particular, seems to reference some of the obvious things that might come to mind (maps, flags, etc.) but what is fascinating to me about her work is the visual prescience of them- they really evoke the aesthetics of information that is so prevalent in design right now.
