According to this article, the technology now exists to enable computers to read lips and translate what is being said by visual input from webcams. This instantly reminded me of the scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey in which Dave and Frank try to have a private discussion without HAL overhearing. Skip to the 4:00 mark to watch that scene.
