Imagine being able to see a display of your current bank account balance directly on your debit card (pictured above). This data would of course be protected, and displayed only after passing a biometric security protection system that reads your fingerprint directly on the card. I admit, this idea is likely to be much more touchy due to privacy and security concerns, but I’m fairly sure that something like it will exist in the not-too-distant future.

In general, like the app-specific future of mobile devices, web-enabled appliances and objects like this one will be designed to be good at one thing but not as general-purpose web browsers.
