“Instead of reading a book as a formal structure, then, we should understand it...”
– This quote comes from a 2003 article by Johanna Drucker titled “The Virtual Codex from Page Space to E-Space.” I find it fascinating to read a six-year-old article on how electronic media interacts with the concept of a book, especially now that the ubiquity of devices like laptops,...

One step closer to HAL: Computers can now read... →
According to this article, the technology now exists to enable computers to read lips and translate what is being said by visual input from webcams. This instantly reminded me of the scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey in which Dave and Frank try to have a private discussion without HAL overhearing. Skip to the 4:00 mark to watch that scene. HAL reads their lips. Frank dies.

futuramb: How Technology Is Changing the Face of Innovation - WSJ.com Listen to Michael Schrage explain how managers should do to manage innovations in three minutes. He is basically saying: don’t have your employees come up with suggestion which is converted into grand plans of implementation, but with business hypotheses that can quickly be tested directly on the market.

World Future Society: 20 Forecasts for 2010-2025 -... →
This is the most important among the 20, in my opinion: Forecast #2: Water Becomes the New Oil—Water desalination may soon become one of the world’s largest industries. By 2040, at least 3.5 billion people will run short of water—almost 10 times as many as in 1995. The huge demand, plus new more efficient desalination technologies, will create enormous profit opportunities and bring new life to...
